Quadrac
Racing was formed in the summer of 2006 when a group of like-minded
‘multisport athletes’ realised that our local area was lacking in
off-road ‘adventure style’ events involving open-water swimming,
kayaking, mountain biking and trail running.
At the same time a
new Water Ski Park to the west of Bedford
had opened and the owners had the vision to see that the park could
offer the perfect location for such events alongside water skiing and
cable tow wake boarding. The park’s lakes quickly became the areas most
popular open water swimming venue and local Triathlon clubs soon had
regular training sessions there. A permanent 4.4k running and off-road
cycle trail was prepared inside the Park’s grounds and incorporating an
attractive landscaped newly planted woodland.
Over the winter of
2006 / 2007 Quadrac Racing took on the running of a long established
Quadrathlon series – The Wadenhoe Winter Challenge – This is a British
Quadrathlon Association (BQA) event and uses a very testing course on
the banks of the River Nene north of Oundle.
July 29th 2007 saw
the first ‘Quadrac Racing’ event – the BQA National Quadrathlon Short
Course Championships and off – road Triathlon. held at Box End Water
Ski Park, which was a great success despite serious flooding of the
site the week before.
QUADRAC RACING is a not-for-profit event
organisation aiming to provide inexpensive competition for athletes.
All events are suitable for both beginners and experienced multi-sport
athletes.
Although still in
its infancy Quadrac Racing hopes to develop in the future. It’s success
depends upon significant volunteer help and continued support and
collaboration with local clubs and organisations in particular Bedford Harrier AC, Bedford Traktors Tri Club and Galeforce Events. We hope to widen our
appeal to other swimming, kayaking, mountain biking and Adventure Racing
organisations.
It is clear that
there is a great future for adventure racing in this region and Quadrac
Racing hope to fulfill their part in making available events for those
hungry to give it a go.
